SPECIAL POLICE UNIT FOR NORTH-EASTERN REGION (SPUNER)
The Delhi Police Special Police Unit for North-Eastern Region (SPUNER) was set up on 14th February, 2014, with its permanent office at Nanakpura, Moti Bagh, New Delhi-110021. The SPUNER Unit is headed by an officer of rank of Joint Commissioner of Police as Chief Co-ordinator cum Nodal Officer and the Unit is functioning under over-all Supervision of a Special Commissioner of Police. The ‘1093’ is the dedicated North-East Helpline and manned by Lady Police hailing from North-East States who were recruited in Delhi Police through a special recruitment drives during 2016 & 2018.
Apart from dedicated North-East Helpline No. “1093” attached to Central Police Control Room (CPCR), the SPUNER & North-East Assistance Team (NEAT) are functioning round the clock from SPUNER office Nanakpura with 03 mobile vehicles and carrying out regular patrolling in the areas where there are large concentrations of North-East People in Delhi. The SPUNER Unit also ensure Safety and Security of Gorkhas of Darjeeling and Ladakhis.
Besides above, the SPUNER Unit teams are rendering humanitarian services through its constant liaisoning and coordination with the Airlines, Hospitals and various other agencies for transportation of human remains from Delhi to their home-states.
The SPUNER Unit is also organizing Community outreach, general awareness and sensitization programmes for Delhi Police personnel, RWAs and College/University Students about North-East people and their cultures. The SPUNER Team put up Help Desk for North-East Students during College/University admissions from time to time.
The Delhi Police SPUNER Unit always stand by the North-East People and the people from Darjeeling and Ladakh as well as the Students/Youths ensuring their Safety and Security in national capital.
